About Us

The Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation exists to ensure that financial barriers never silence a brilliant mind.

Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation

RASAF (Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation) was established to honour the life, values, and enduring legacy of Professor Rauf Sobulo a distinguished academic, mentor, and philanthropist who believed that education remains the most powerful tool for transforming lives and communities.

Professor Rauf Sobulo dedicated his professional life to the advancement of Nigerian agriculture. As a distinguished researcher and Professor of Agronomy associated with the University of Ife (now OAU) and the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) in Ibadan, his heavily cited work in soil science and crop nutrition played a vital role in optimising food security and agricultural practices in the region.

His impact extended far beyond the laboratory. Professor Sobulo was a visionary organiser and a founding Trustee of Bodija Estates & Environs Muslim Community. He took a hands-on approach to leadership, famously going door-to-door to invite residents, foster unity, and help establish the Islamic Centre proving that strong communities require deliberate, empathetic leadership.

It was through that same hands-on instinct that he noticed something the data didn’t capture: Muslim students and lecturers were starkly underrepresented across South-West Nigerian universities. So, alongside colleagues at CAMON (Conference of All Muslim Organisations of Nigeria), he didn’t write a report about it, he started a self-funded drive that sponsored undergraduates and put dozens of students through PhD programmes, out of his own pocket and his own persistence.

He spent his life opening doors for others. RASAF exists so those doors stay open.

Prof. Rauf Sobulo’s defining legacy is that he did not keep his academic success confined to the university campus. He actively used his position to identify gaps in his community and build bridges to close them. He understood that true excellence is measured not just by personal accolades, but by the number of people you uplift along the way.

Prof. Rauf Sobulo spent his life opening doors for others; RASAF exists to ensure those doors never close. Today, the Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation transforms his lifelong philosophy into tangible, life-changing opportunities. We exist to break down financial and systemic barriers, ensuring that brilliant, dedicated minds have the resources they need to thrive.

Through targeted scholarships, dedicated academic mentorship, and community-driven initiatives, we are proud to continue his life’s work of empowering the next generation of scholars and leaders.

From One Man's Conviction to an Institution

Professor Sobulo never separated his academic success from his responsibility to others. He believed real excellence is measured by how many people you bring with you not how far ahead of them you get.

The Rauf Sobulo Academic Foundation takes that belief and makes it permanent. Where he once funded scholarships himself, one student at a time, RASAF now does it as an institution — through scholarships, mentorship, and community programmes built to outlast any one person’s generosity, including his.
